강원도 양구에서 출생하여 제물포고등학교, 한신대학교와 한신대신학대학원(M.Div)을 졸업하고, 미국 McCormick Theological Seminary에서 신학석사와 Chicago Theological Seminary에서 목회학박사 학위를 받았다. 1998년 목사가 되어 효동교회 부목사와 한신대학교 기관목사 등으로 사역하였고, 현재 예닮교회 수석 부목사로 재직하며 미국 시카고의 한국기독교연구소(CSKC)의 상임연구원으로 활동 중이다.
