별주부전(鼈主簿傳)의 전기는 유수한 한 민중문학을 형성하며 ‘토끼타령’으로의 가곡은 가장 유력한 한 민족시로 사막같은 조선인의 심야를 풍부함에 은혜를 받게 하며,중략 범어(梵語)에 토(兎)를 ‘사가’라 함은 달을 ‘샤신’이라고 하는 사상에 교섭이 있다고 하며 달을 ‘샤신(Cacin)’이라 함은 토끼 그림자가 박혔다는 뜻에서 나왔다고 한다. 설화는 반드시 한 개 혹은 여러 개의 모티브를 핵심으로 하여 성립하는 것이니 모티브란 것은 설화의 성립 계기를 말함이다. 인도 동물 설화의 모티브는 첫째, 존자(尊者) 강자인 한 동물과 그 종속자나 약소자인 한 동물의 대립적 관계에서 강하나 어리석은 전자가 약하나 꾀가 있는 후자에게 우롱을 당하는 것이다.본분 중에서
