About the author
헤르만 헤세(HERMANN HESSE) 헤르만 헤세는 소설가이자 시인이며, 1877년 남독일 슈바벤의 조그만 도시에서 태어났다. 목사인 아버지와 인도인인 어머니 사이에서 태어난 헤세는 동ㆍ서양의 영향을 고루 받아 그의 감성과 사고는 어릴 적부터 남달랐다. 1904년 ≪페터 카멘친트≫를 발표하여 작가로서의 명성을 얻었고, 그 후 ≪데미안≫, ≪크눌프≫, ≪수레바퀴 밑에서≫, ≪지와 사랑≫, ≪청춘은 아름다워라≫등을 발표 헤세문학의 금자탑을 쌓았다. 1946년 괴테상을 수상하였고 이어, ≪유리알 유희≫로 노벨문학상을 수상하였다
