About this ebook

In this novel of “tense romantic suspense” in the London art world, a female journalist confronts deadly secrets and a seductive con man (Rhoda Baxter, author of Truly, Madly, Deeply).

Freelance journalist Anna Morris is struggling to make a name for herself, so she’s delighted to attend a star-studded art opening at her friend Seb’s gallery. But the event takes an unexpected turn when she meets Max Conran. The brother of a celebrated art dealer, he’s handsome, charming, and effortlessly sexy. What’s not to like?

For starters, Max Conran is not his real name. And his meeting Anna was no chance encounter. Despite Seb’s warnings, Anna is intrigued. Maybe it’s her journalistic curiosity, or just Max’s piercing blue eyes. Either way, she suddenly finds herself inside a dangerous underworld of forgery, lies, and murder. Now she’s about to uncover one hell of a story—or make the biggest mistake of her life.

“Keeps you guessing right to the end.” —Rhoda Baxter, author of Truly, Madly, Deeply

About the author

Clare Chase writes women sleuth mysteries set in London and Cambridge. She fell in love with the capital as a student, living in the rather cushy surroundings of Hampstead in what was then a campus college of London University. After graduating in English literature, she moved to Cambridge and has lived there ever since. Chase is fascinated by the city’s contrasts and contradictions, which feed into her writing. She’s worked in diverse settings—from the eight-hundred-year-old University to one of the local prisons—and lived everywhere from the house of a Lord to a slug-infested flat. The terrace she now occupies presents a good happy medium. As well as writing, Chase loves family time, art and architecture, cooking, and of course, reading other people’s books. She lives with her husband and teenage children, and currently works at the Royal Society of Chemistry.
