Lincoln Prairie Homicide Detective Marti MacAlister does not get along with her new boss. Eleanor Taylor Bland, the "grande dame of Chicago mystery writers," according the Chicago Sun-Times, is the author of eleven previous Marti MacAlister mysteries and the editor of the anthology, Shades of Black: Crime and Mystery Stories by African-American Authors. She lives in Waukegan, Illinois, which serves as the model for Marti's hometown of Lincoln Prairie.
