In the Heart of Texas, a heartthrob cowboy may get his second chance at love...

Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff, is still single. He tells himself, and anyone who asks, that he is married to his job—and what matters most is keeping the people of his beloved Texas hometown safe. The truth? Danny still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She moved away after graduation and took Danny’s heart with her.

Skylar Long never thought she would have to flee Houston and return home—where it all began for her. But that’s what happened after the man of her dreams turned out to be an actual nightmare. Now, Skylar is desperate to escape her obsessive boyfriend. Nothing shocks her more than seeing Danny again and realizing that their long-ago attraction is more powerful than ever. But can she and Danny find a way to fight against Skylar’s wealthy, powerful ex who is dead set on tearing them apart?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I just LOVED this book. Danny has appeared in all of the books in this series and we finally get to read his HEA. Danny is at odds with his life. He loves his job as sheriff but he pictured a wife and maybe a child or two by now. Unfortunately the girl that he liked in high school left for the big city of Houston right after graduation. Danny gets some dinner but doesn't want to eat at home nor sitting down in a restaurant. He decides to eat his dinner at a rest stop that he enjoys the views from. A sports car comes into the rest stop and is shortly followed by another. The driver of the second car gets out and assaults the driver of the first vehicle. It turns out that the driver in the sports car is none other than the girl from high school, Skylar Long. The rest of the story is one that is filled with intrigue and suspense. We get to see the prior characters return here and help Skylar and Danny. I loved how the book not only was written in the dual POV that I favor, but also it included Matt's, Skylar's abusive ex-boyfriend now stalker. I was a little disappointed in Skylar's character. She seemed to entered into sexual relationships rather easily in her life in Houston. I don't approve of that normally and I wished her character was a little different. Having sex between Danny and Skylar as soon as it was, was a little too much for me but it didn't affect how I adored the story. I was glued to my e-reader to hurry and see what was going to happen next. Unfortunately for me, that also leads to the conclusion of the story. There are several scenes that may not be appropriate for anyone under the age of 18. There are some sexy scenes between Danny and Skylar as well as a scene of violence. While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I highly encourage to start at the beginning. Seeing the relationships develop with all of the characters really will help to show the dedication and loyalty that these characters have for each other. I look forward to several more stories in this series. There are a few more men that needs a HEA for me to read about.

He tells himself and anyone who asks that he is married to the his job but the truth is Lone Star Sheriff, Danny Oldman still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She never thought that she would have to flee Houston and return home, but that’s what happened after the man of her dreams turned out to be an actual nightmare. Their attraction is more powerful than ever, but Skylar’s wealthy, powerful ex is dead set on tearing them apart! This ‘Heart of Texas’ romance is an intense, thrilling read with a sweet heartwarming romance that makes even the Grinch believe in HEAs. The chemistry between these two strong, stand out characters sizzles from every page and the relationship between them is sweet and passionate and full of emotions that makes it easy for the readers to relate to and understand what motivates these characters. The plot is fast paced and full of suspense and excitement that builds throughout the story keeping the readers fixated on what’s happening and their toes bounding on the floor in anticipation. Some twists that come from the couple themselves, some twists that comes from the ex-worm and some twists that comes from the ex-worm’s family keeps everyone on their toes and adds to the excitement while some violence breaks readers hearts and has them calling for the ex-worms head. This entertaining read is full friends, a thrilling conclusion to the bad guy and a holiday ending worthy of the season.

A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant Heart of Texas #4 The sheriff is lonely when the book begins and he is thinking about the girl in high school that he had a crush on but never put the moves on. Christmas is coming and he is tired, hungry and alone. Almost as if his thoughts have conjured her he sees the woman he has been thinking about attacked in the parking area he just happens to be parked in. Danny Oldman is definitely surprised and happy to see Skylar Long again and Skylar is equally happy to see Danny. This small town second chance romance is action-packed and filled with people from previous books. Danny is a good man who deserves a good woman just as much as Skylar deserves a kind man that will treat her well. The two may have found just that in one another but there is the pesky problem of the abusive ex-boyfriend, Matt, who is a narcissistic obsessed bad guy that likes to hurt women. I enjoyed returning to the group of people in this series and enjoyed reading how Danny and Skylar achieve their HEA even though I was a bit surprised at how quickly they fell into the relationship. The story is fast paced and easy to follow and I was invested in the two finding their way out of the troubles they found themselves in. At times I felt it was a bit predictable but all in all I enjoyed the story. I also imagine that with Ryan, Jace and a few more that are still not married this series will have more books I can look forward to reading. I kind of wonder if Ryan will stay on as the Chief or take up the Texas Rangers on the job offer. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Paberbacks for the ARC – This is my honest review. 3-4 Stars
