About this eBook

This book is a collection of true stories revolving around a group of Rhodesian National servicemen from intake 147 and about our experiences in the army. It is also about a journey of self discovery and reconnecting with old comrades. The original intent was to preserve the stories of my life in Rhodesia for my children but has developed into a means of helping to heal the mental scaring that the traumas of war have inflfl icted on us and to understand the impact post traumatic stress disorder has on us and our wives and families.

Well done David for a deeply moving and honest portrayal of a very powerful time in Rhodesia. There is a simplicity and honesty in the way the book has been written that captures the stories from soldiers on the ground. It is a story that will both move the reader both with regard to the tragegy around looses of good men and friends as well as leave you captured by the humour of the situation. It is a book that is a must for every Rhodesian as well as anyone interested in that time of Rhodesia's history. It is a book that can be passed down generations to preserve a time that no longer exists. I look forward to Book two.

These heartfelt recollections of incidents both humorous and sad, are written 35 years after such young men were sent to fight to save their way of life.Very readable and informative,it is a tribute to all involved in shedding some light on this forgotten to most, war.I was very moved by the recollections of several accounts of the same incidents. Some lighter notes are recounted as the young men, as young men do, played pranks on each other. The bonding and affection, and current day connections, shines throughout this lovely and honouring, series of memoirs. I also hope that someday the 'hole in their hearts' will be less painful. The calibre of 'Intake 147' bears witness in this important book.
