About this eBook

Seven years ago, Moriyah was taken captive in Jericho and branded with the mark of the Canaanite gods. Now the Israelites are experiencing peace in their new land, but Moriyah has yet to find her own peace. Because of the shameful mark on her face, she hides behind her veil at all times and the disdain of the townspeople keeps her from socializing. And marriage prospects were out of the question . . . until now.

Her father has found someone to marry her, and she hopes to use her love of cooking to impress the man and his motherless sons. But when things go horribly wrong, Moriyah is forced to flee. Seeking safety at one of the newly-established Levitical cities of refuge, she is wildly unprepared for the dangers she will face, and the enemies--and unexpected allies--she will encounter on her way.

I love these books so much!! I can't put them down! I finished this one in 4 days (which is really fast for me)! I love the history in the books and being able to cross check them with scripture! It makes me want to open the Bible and read more on that time. I love the characters' stories and how much truth is woven into them. There are so many lessons to be taken away! I highly recommend the entire Out of Egypt series and this first book of the Cities of Refuge series. I can't wait to read the next ones!

Such a wonderful and poignant story. In the first few sentences I was taken back to late 1300's BC, to the cities of refuge mentioned in Joshua 20. I soon won't forget this beautiful Biblical novel written by Connilyn Cossette. It was quit obvious after reading this book, the research that must have went into writing this story. This was my first book that I have read by Ms. Cossette. It will not be my last, I am already researching which one to chose next.

The Characters: Both main and secondary characters are strikingly vivid in this book. I remember their feature scenes and personality like I had watched them in a theater. (Hellooo, filmmakers in Hollywood, get with the program and make us movies of these books! Ahem.) I've tried to pick a favorite secondary character, but they're all so masterfully created, I couldn't choose. Even the wicked king of Megiddo was breathtaking to "see" in motion as I read his pages. The Romance: I'll be honest, I couldn't see a satisfactory ending coming for these star-crossed romantic leads. So much stood in their way, not to mention the small matter of their lives being in danger at almost every moment! But the author pulled it all together in a beautiful conclusion that has me wanting to read the book all over again. The Pace: With multiple lives at stake, this one's a page turner! The Faith Element: As with every Connilyn Cossette book I've read, this title did not fail to bring me to the throne room in worship of our great and amazing God. To see His faithfulness and guidance woven through the fabric of history, even when man is so faithless, brings me to tears and makes me want to serve Him better. The Author's Trademarks: Vivid imagery, research of ancient history, impossible odds and strong attraction between romantic leads, life-threatening stakes, worshipful portrayal of God as omnipotent and yet loving. The Overall Impression: I'm always awed by Conni's books. They not only send me on a thrilling, taste-and-see journey with characters I love, the lessons they portray drive me to my knees with longing to become closer to the One who made change and repentance possible. The More Factor: More! Yes, please, lots more! I recommend this authors books to everyone. *I received a copy of this book from the publisher free of charge. My review is voluntary, and the opinions expressed are my own.

About the author

When she is not homeschooling her two sweet kids (with a full pot of coffee at hand), Connilyn Cossette is scribbling notes on spare paper, mumbling about her imaginary friends, and reading obscure, out-of-print history books. Although a Pacific Northwest native, she now lives in a little town near Dallas, Texas. She can be found online at www.connilyncossette.com.
