About this ebook

Ex-Confederate Army captain John Carter finds himself suddenly and unwittingly transported to Mars while fleeing Apache Indians. This new world is populated by a race of monstrous Martians whose culture is based on the ability to fight for their race. Captured by the savage green men of Thark, John discovers that the gravitational difference between Mars and Earth has endowed him with the strength that he will need for survival on this hostile planet. He battles ferocious Martian creatures and gains the respect and friendship of the Barsoomians. Along the way he encounters the beautiful Dejah Thoris Princess of Helium, and earns her everlasting devotion.

I started this book on Monday had finished it today. About 15 hours invested, ADDICTIVE to say the least. From an imagitive reader (myself), the detail and precision of words and plot, i couldn't help but feel as if i was narrating the story myself as if i witnessed it first had. Even though the movie was crappy, The book is a great read

This book has its major pros but also a big con. The fact that it was first published around 1912 still fascinates me to this day! These books set the stage for a lot of the well known sci-fi series of today. My biggest and probably only con is that with all the detail that he put into his descriptions of Mars, everything from landscaping down to their weapons power source, we never get a clear understanding of how he arrived there. Regardless, its still a super fun read! Well worth your time.

Considering this was published in 1917, the technology Mr Burroghs exampled in this book is astonishing and the way the Hero is depicted is worthy of an 11 book series. The customs of Earth beings are unknown to the being on Mars just as much as theirs to his. So in a way i felt as the story went on and he learned the ways, so do the readers. Gravity is different on Mars but same to us on Earth and this book has gravity to make you want to discover not only what John Carter does but about ourselves as well
