About the author
Sasterawan Negara Dato' A. Samad Said dilahirkan pada 9 April 1935 di Belimbing Dalam, Durian Tunggal, Melaka. Beliau mendapat pendidikan awalnya di Sekolah Melayu Kota Raja, Singapura, sebelum melanjutkan pelajaran tingginya ke Victoria Institution, juga di Singapura.
Atas jasa dan khidmat bakti beliau dalam bidang kesusasteraan Melayu Malaysia, beliau dianugerahkan pelbagai hadiah dan penghargaan seperti Anugerah Pejuang Sastera (1976) dan Anugerah Sastera Negara (1985). Pada tahun 2003, beliau menerima Ijazah Kehormat Doktor Pendidikan Kesusasteraan daripada Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.
