First time reviewing a book so excuse the chaos down below. I enjoyed reading this book much more than I expected. First and foremost, I didn't read the first three books, so I might unknowingly spoil or misrepresent a few things. (And that is on me 100%) That's why ... *Spoilers* All throughout the story, I followed Danny and her two boyfriends (soon to be three, but I didn't tell you that) trying to stop the war that caused all of them angst and anguish with the help of a very special group of friends. The book is four stories happening in chronological order told all from different POVs, and I loved being able to get into one character's mind, then get out and get to dive right back into another's. It was thrilling and the pace was perfect for me. The first story is centered around Danny and starts in an electrifying scene where Danny is almost killed by her psycho best friend. I was hooked from that point on. I had no difficulty piecing together the backstory most of the time and surprisingly I didn't feel that there were lots of repetitions, it was just mentions thrown here and there. (I would definitely recommend reading the first books but if you're like me and like making things complicated for yourself, you'll enjoy the challenge of reading the fourth book first.) In the second story, Regan (boyfriend no1, I think, and Danny's first mate) returns to his roots, in this case his parents' mansion and by taking back what is his right, he starts step one of their plan to stop the war. This story was sooooo satisfying and the end was perrrrrfect, in my opinion. Since the story is from Regan's POV, I was thrilled to discover how the big, scary, powerful guy operated from the inside and I was not disappointed. The guy is clever. In the third story, we accompanied the Crown Prince in his quest to do his part of the plan and save a kingdom he does not want. Darren is endearing and his story is as heartbreaking as he is playful. I cried (but that might be due to me being a crybaby) and I just wanted to hug him. Everything ends well for him though and the support he receives from his crush and his friends is heartwarming. This story was my favourite. That is why, fellow readers, the start of the fourth story was like a punch to the gut. I cried again (I told you, probably my crybaby self). I am also a coward, so the Butcher freaks me out, OK? And JP is not a guy you want to see hurt at all. If you can't read graphic torture, skip the flashbacks in this story. The end brings you closure. It is wholesome and perfect. Remember that JP is way stronger than he looks, but also remember that if someone has the right people around them, they do not have to be. JP is a survivor and his companions are true friends. I will not tell you who boyfriend no 3 is. Read if you want to find out. Because this book is a must-read if you love werewolf stories. Honestly, I loved the book and it keeps getting better the more you read. The plot is intricate without being heavy and the characters are so fluid, you can literally see them grow and I loved this so much. Definitely rooting for Aspen. He is not a main character in this story, but he left a deep impression on me. I don't know what happened to him but JP said: "Some things in life happen to us. Some things in life happen around us. And they aren't ours to tell. (...)" So I'll read his story and wish him the best. Just read it if you are hesitating, because it did not disappoint me at all (and I am a picky reader on top of being a crybaby so...). Insatiable Reader I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
