About this ebook

Operating System Concepts, now in its ninth edition, continues to provide a solid theoretical foundation for understanding operating systems. The ninth edition has been thoroughly updated to include contemporary examples of how operating systems function. The text includes content to bridge the gap between concepts and actual implementations. End-of-chapter problems, exercises, review questions, and programming exercises help to further reinforce important concepts. A new Virtual Machine provides interactive exercises to help engage students with the material.

A lot of material was very confusing. The sections that were ambiguous and frustrating to read were probably written by the same person (there are three authors of this textbook).

The majority of this book was terrific. Very comprehensible and interesting. I learned quite a few things I didn't know before. On the minute side, I felt the treatment of user vs kernel threads was a bit muddled. I also didn't get as much detail on certain things as I had hoped. And the advanced section was a bit dry and over-saturated. I'd rather learn that subject matter in a more advanced book. But overall, this book is actually quite fun.
