About this ebook

This book is written in response to an initiative to boost research at University of Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA), Ponorogo. All the chapters in this book have been written by the lecturers of the Department of International Relations at UNIDA Gontor. Although there is no unified theme that links the ten chapters, the book strives in its entirety to reflect globalization from the three sub-areas of the discipline of International Relations, namely: Security Studies, Business and International Political Economy, and Diplomacy with the primary focus of analysis from Islamic perspective.

About the author

Afni Regita Cahyani was born in Jakarta March 6, 1993. Afni is a Master graduate of International Relations, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. Afni was an analyst at the Center for World Trade Studies, Gadjah Mada University (PSPD-UGM) as a Research Assistant. Then, served in the Research Division and became the author of articles in the publication media of Empowering Perspective of International Commerce. Apart from being active as a writer, currently Afni is a lecturer at the International Relations Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Darussalam Gontor University who focuses on the field of political economy.

Ali Musa Harahap is a lecturer in the Department of International Relations at University of Darussalam Gontor, Indonesia. He obtained his B.A and M.A in Political Science from International Islamic University, Malaysia. He has authored one book. His specialization and research interests cover Islam and Politics.

Aprilia Restuning Tunggal, born in Kudus, Central Java on April 6, 1987. Currently, he is a permanent lecturer at the International Relations Department, Faculty of Humanities, University of Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo Indonesia. He also a father who has a wife and a daughter. Before becoming a lecturer at Darussalam Gontor University, he served at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Doha Qatar (KBRI Doha-Qatar) in the 2013-2015 period. During his tenure at the Indonesian Embassy in Qatar, he was assigned as Staff of Protocol and Consular Functions, Staff of the Labor Attache, Secretary of the Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar, as well as an Interpreter in the trial of cases of alleged oil theft by Indonesian crew members in Qatar. His educational background started from SD Negeri Lemah Putih I Sedan, Rembang in 1992-1999, Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo in 1999-2005, Undergraduate at Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta in 2007-2011 and Master Degree from Gadjah Mada University in 2011-2013. He is currently pursuing doctorate studies at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta with a concentration on Middle Eastern Studies. His research interests are International Cooperation, International Trade, International Business and International Relations in the Middle East Region. In addition, he is also an expert in Arabic and English; both verbal and writing works.

Belly Rahmon was born in Pekanbaru, July 28, 1981. He completed Bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Padjajaran University, Indonesia. Then, he continued his postgraduate studies through a scholarship from the Government of India by studying Political Science at the University of Kerala, India. Apart from being author, he is an active interpreter. 

Zahidiyah Ela Tursina born in Bojonegoro, November 19,1989. She obtained B.A from State University of Jember, majoring International Relations. She then obtained M.A at University of Airlangga with the same primary focus of International Relations. She is now serving her community at Islamic think tank of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia.

Dini Septyana Rahayu, born in Madiun, September 16, 1992. She completed her undergraduate education at the International Relations Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Malang, and Masters Education in International Relations, Airlangga University. Currently, the author is a lecturer at the International Relations Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Darussalam Gontor University who conducts research in the fields of International Political Economy, Diaspora, and East Asian Region studies. In addition, he is also active as a speaker at various seminars both locally and nationally related to International Political Economy and East Asia.

Ida Susilowati comes from Sragen and graduated from Darussalam Gontor Putri in 2000. She continued her undergraduate studies at the Darussalam Islamic Studies Institute (now University of Darusslam Gontor, Indonesia) at the Ushuluddin Faculty, Department of Comparative Religion (2004). In 2006, the author continued her study of the Master program in Social Sciences, majoring in Politics & International Relations at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) Pakistan and managed to get 2 scholarships (Faculty scholarships & scholarships from Kuwait) during the study period, and obtained a Master degree of Arts in Politics & International Relations in 2007. Currently, the author is a permanent lecturer at UNIDA Gontor (International Relations Department). The author is active in writing. Among articles that have been published in journals are Politics of Identity on Great 212’s Reunion (2019), Sister City Jakarta-Yerussalem as an Effort to Strengthen Indonesian-Palestinian Bilateral Relations (Case Study of the Jakarta Provincial Government Paradiplomacy- Yerussalem (2019), Optimizing the Role of Women as an Alternative to Public Policy in Suppressing the Spread of the Covid-19 Pandemic (2020), and others including authoring the book “Pemikiran Politik Hukum Negara” published by Poskolegnas, Jakarta. In addition to writing, several times attended as a speaker at several discussions and seminars, including speakers at the WhatsApp National Seminar with the theme “Mahasantri Can Get S2 Scholarships Abroad” (2019), resource persons in the National Webinar with the theme “Optimizing the Role of Women in the Social Political Sector in the Pandemic Era” (2020) and themed “The Palestinian Constitution and Its Position as a Subject of International Law’’ (2021).

Wildi Adila is an LPDP awardee who was born in Ponorogo on 7 November, 1991. He obtained M.A from SOAS University of London, United Kingdom. His primary focus of research are applied linguistics and language acquisition studies. Apart from being active as an author in both national and international publications, he also serves his community as dedicated lecturer at State Islamic University Raden Mas Said Surakarta, Indonesia.

Mohamad Latief was born in Pacitan, January 27, 1981. He obtained Ph.D from University of Malaya, Malaysia. In addition, he also obtained M.A from Islamic University of Islamabad Pakistan with a focus on studies in Politics and International Relations. Currently, he is the Dean at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Darussalam Gontor, Indonesia. 

Fadhlan Nur Hakiem is one of the lecturers in the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Darussalam Gontor, Indonesia. He had a Bachelor degree in International Relations from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and also obtained a Master degree in International Relations from Universitas Indonesia. He has joined at Universitas Darussalam Gontor since 2017. Currently, he is the Head of Department of International Relations, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Darussalam Gontor. He has an interest in transnational civil society and international security studies. He has produced several articles published in national and international accredited journals. In the last two years, he has received competitive research grants from the Directorate of Research, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education to research human security in Indonesia.

Rudi Candra graduated from KMI Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Ponorogo in 2001, then continued his undergraduate education at Al-Azhar University Cairo Egypt in 2003 until completed in 2009 with the title Lc. He obtained M.A at the Arab League University Egypt. In addition, he also obtained M.A from Gadjah Mada University Indonesia majoring in International Relations. He was also a scholarship awardee from the BCF (Bakrie Center Foundation) in 2012, and in mid-2020, the author was given the opportunity to continue his doctoral Gadjah Mada University Indonesia by taking a specialization in American Studies. Currently, the author is served to being a lecturer in the International Relations Study Program at Darussalam Gontor University, Ponorogo, and taking part as an Executive Board Directors of INSIERA (Indonesian Islamic Studies and International Relations Associations).

Hesti Rokhaniyah was born in Madiun, October 1, 1983. He is a lecturer in English in International Relations at University of Darussalam Gontor, Indonesia. She obtained B.A of English Language Education from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang and completed M.A at Sebelas Maret State University, Indonesia. The author has received and granted many competitive research grants from various governmental bureau and private sectors.

Sofi Mubarok was born in Ponorogo, November 13, 1982. He obtained Lc degree from Al Azhar Cairo with the expertise of Aqidah and Philosophy. He obtained M.A (International Relations) at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. Currently, the author is pursuing Ph.D at International Islamic University Malaysia with a focus on political science. In addition, the author is also active in discussing the Islamization of knowledge as scientific works.
