法國小說家、哲學家、戲劇家、評論家，1947年出版《瘟疫》(La Peste)，被視為代表作之一，描寫城市在突發瘟疫後人們面對疫情奮力抗爭的故事，藉由對苦難死亡與存在的思考，將現代人的生存困境推到了極致，建構人類反抗姿態與荒誕處境之間的張力，肯定一種力所能及的行動，提示無神時代的現代人在愛中尋找信仰之源，進一步確立了卡繆在西方當代文學中的重要地位。
