About this ebook

The book that changed a nation, said the New York Times. Released in 1976, it was an overnight commercial and critical success, sold more than 6 million copies and was translated into more than 35 languages.

This was one of the first frank depictions of slavery and resulted in conversations between black and white Americans about a previously taboo subject matter.

The Telugu book Edutaralu, published in November 1980 has also remained one of the best-loved books in Telugu. It started a conversation, which in these still-fractious times, may be as necessary and critical as ever.
