Dieser Roman ist relativ unbekannt und gehört nicht unbedingt zu den ganz großen Werken des Altmeisters der historischen Unterhaltungsromane. Doch Dumas entfaltet mit literarischer Meisterschaft ein Zerrbild von Isabelle von Bayern. Als Haupttitel wäre allerdings "Aus der Zeit Karls VI. von Frankreich" besser geeignet gewesen. Grundlage dieses Romans ist die Ausgabe von 1835 des Magazins für Industrie und Literatur Leipzig, in der Übersetzung von Ludwig von Alvensleben. Die damalige Übersetzung wurde grundlegend überarbeitet und erweitert sowie dem modernen Sprachgebrauch angepasst. Die Handlung beginnt 1389 mit dem Einzug Isabelles in Paris.
