A murderous android discovers itself in All Systems Red, a tense science fiction adventure by Martha Wells that interrogates the roots of consciousness through Artificial Intelligence.

"As a heartless killing machine, I was a complete failure."

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.

But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid — a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.

But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

I have not read the book yet because i can't buy it. So I like to say that I like to look at all the book covers because they looks so cool, and reading other people texts on how the books go and so I was like wow this series seem incredible. So for the problem for many people that did not give the author a 5 star review because of on how pricey it is and tiny details that people did not like. So I'm only giving 4 star because I have not read it yet

The first thing that pulled me into this story was the idea of an intelligence with distributed sensory input. I love the use of the feed like a back channel. The social media-esq connectivity and the fact that SecUnit sounds like my GenZ kids hooked me. The personalities and the relationships have kept me coming back book after book.

I enjoyed this story. It was a fun read. Sci-fi YA. I would recommend if you like either of those type books. The narrator is a Secunit with a hacked system that acts more human than robot. It and several other people are on a planet checking out resources when they find out there may be sabotage. The "murderbot" although androgenous reminds me of my younger sister. 'Let's just watch hours of media and who cares attitude' lol
