About this eBook

A new 2023 edition of Joseph Conrad's classic An Outcast of the Islands from Livraria Press with an extensive Afterword and expanded reference materials including a character list and discussion questions. An Outcast of the Islands is Joseph Conrad’s second novel, published in 1896. The story follows the journey of Willems, a Dutchman stranded on an island in the East Indies and his struggles to survive in the unfamiliar terrain. While the plot follows Willems’ adventure, the main theme of the novel is an exploration of the human condition and the consequences of alienation from society. Through this narrative journey, Conrad invites readers to examine their own faith and morality, challenging them to think beyond accepted conventions.

About the author

Born Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski, Conrad was a Polish-British writer who is regarded as one of the greatest novelists to write in the English language. His works explore the pinnacles and abysses of human nature, as seen in novels like "Heart of Darkness" and "Lord Jim." Conrad's writing style and themes influenced the development of modernist literature.
