L'origine égypto-libanaise de Chedid l'enracine dans une terre dont elle garde en elle les qualités millénaires de résistance, de création. Elle a su, pourtant, ne pas s'emprisonner dans cette identité, se réclamant une libre citoyenne du monde, fine observatrice des sociétés en mutation, refusant et fuyant tout dogme et toute idéologie.
