Andrés Bello López (Caracas, 1781-Santiago de Chile, 1865). Filósofo, poeta, filólogo, educador y jurista, uno de los humanistas más importantes de América Latina. Fue maestro de Simón Bolívar y participó en el proceso revolucionario que llevaría a la independencia de Venezuela. Rector de la Universidad de Chile durante más de dos décadas. Entre sus principales obras se encuentran 'Gramática de la lengua castellana destinada al uso de los americanos' y 'Resumen de la Historia de Venezuela'.
