A few days after the passing of our family dog, I found this book by chance. Reading it was comforting. Although it is an impressive academic work, I mostly felt like I was on a journey with the author and his family. For much of this book, I saw the relationship that my family had with our dog. It is an interesting, enlightening, and even entertaining read.

I truly enjoyed the way the author researched a way to give his son an honest answer. In doing so, he has answered this same question to me, my children and my grandchildren.

About the author

Andrew Root, PhD, is a professor at Luther Seminary whose research explores our most common lived experiences for their theological and even transcendent depth.  A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Dr. Root is often mentioned as one of the leading scholars in youth ministry and practical theology in the world. His 2011 book, The Theological Turn in Youth Ministry, was awarded Book of Merit by Christianity Today in 2012.
