In a moment of bleak despair, Jonathan Barker decides to take his own life. One gun, one bullet. Straight through the roof of the mouth and out into ... darkness. Or not. Nothing ends in Death - not life, nor fear nor despair nor anything else. The human pilgrim walks a shady road, beset on all sides by the tyrannies of experience. Dead, Barker wakes. In a dead city of decayed factories and crumbling apartment buildings - of bleak blank walls and fallen structures. And meets the mysterious Elmer, a strange little man who seems to know a great deal about Jonathan: more, perhaps than does Jonathan himself, who finds he may have a special calling in this twilight city. Together, they set out on a journey through the fallen metropolis, among prostitutes and shadows, half-things, rotten angels. A journey with a destination as evanescent as the spirit of the city. A journey to find an elusive God.
