This book was recommended by so many websites in the genre of sci-fi romance, but this is one of the worst written books I've ever read. Characters are flat and clichéd, there is hardly any real motivation in them, 90% of the book is repetitive ramblings of a hypocrite boring woman, there is literally NO plot-just convenient circumstances to show romance. Yet romance is also rushed, toxic and stupid. I am not a native speaker, but even I could tell this book is primtive. If this is the best in genre...

The writing style of this book took some adjusting to. The first person was somewhat jarring initially, but I feel that was intentional to reflect the protagonist's mental and emotional state. Through the evolution of the story, I found myself becoming invested in what was happening and easing into the writing style. I found the story an excellent piece of space opera, and by the end of the book I was desperate to read more; the mark of a good story in my eyes. The characters are nuanced and complicated, something that is very welcome. There are a few cliches, but nothing that's too over the top. The protagonist's journey from self-interest to altruism is engaging and endearing. I'd prefer if the ending of the book had seemed less abrupt, but that was in keeping with the style of the rest of the story. I'm now thoroughly invested in the characters of this first book and I think I'll have to buy the next one just to silence the little voice in my head clamoring for "more!"

A hint of romance, action, desperation, despair and hope. Our heroine loses alot but she doesn't stop or back down.
