They aim rather to be a record of certain facts and anecdotes gleaned from the papers of that old Yorkshire house of which he became owner ... [when he inherited] two estates and a considerable income ... he immediately announced his intention of assuming the name of Spencer in prefix to his name of Stanhope and so became the representative of the two Yorkshire houses ...".
