(To be translated later into German) This book is designed to support a one-two semester physics option, taken by students of natural science who are not majoring in physics. The author is known for his excellent teaching and with this book he succeeds in conveying an intuitive understanding, often through the use of the many specially drawn colour images. Worked examples are included as part of the text and necessary equations are carefully explained in words. The presentation is relatively concise but nonetheless leads the reader right to the forefront of modern physical theory and experiment. Students, teachers and hobby astronomers alike, will find here a fast and effective entrée to modern physics.

À propos de l'auteur

Prof. em. Dr. Bogdan Povh erhielt 1965 eine Professur in Physik an der Universität Heidelberg und wurde 1975 zum Direktor an das Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik in Heidelberg berufen. Er ist Koautor zweier Springer-Lehrbücher und war jahrelang an der Ausbildung von Medizinern, Naturwissenschaftlern und Physikern beteiligt. Seine Forschungsgebiete sind Kern- und Teilchenphysik und die Anwendung der physikalischen Methoden in der Biologie, Geologie und Planetologie. 2005 bekam er die Stern-Gerlach-Medaille für Experimentalphysik verliehen.
