This investigation is a study of the arithmetical abilities or attainments of school children as measured by an arithmetic test. The study falls into two divisions, with the first focused on a description of the test used and the results are discussed with reference to its utility in determining mastery. The second section describes two studies in which the test is used as a measuring instrument for different groups of pupils.
