About the author

DIVAva Pickard holds a master’s degree in social work and has been a practicing clinical social worker since 1988. She was Clinical Director for the Dallas Area Critical Response Team and was sent to debrief rescue workers after the Oklahoma City bombings. She was also sent to debrief American Airlines flight attendants after the 9/11 tragedy. She currently works as a hospice social worker and educator, and continues to work with trauma-related diagnoses and treatment, performing workshops on crisis management and post-traumatic stress. She has been married for forty years to Bill Pickard and they have three grown children and two granddaughters.
