About this ebook

Shy spinster Hazel Howard has a secret. She's been exchanging letters to decode French spy communications with someone utterly inappropriate: a man. Fortunately, the handsome, charming Lord Aston has no knowledge of her identity. She would never be brave enough to speak with him at a ball, even if their letters have become flirtatious…

Lord Aston is eager to know the female cryptographer who has been assisting the war effort. When she writes she will be in a remote region of Northumberland over Christmas, he seizes upon an excuse to visit. If only he knew precisely who she is.

Hazel is startled to find Lord Aston visiting the militia beside the castle where she is holidaying with her spinster friends. When Lord Aston seems under the impression that his secret letter writer is someone else, she's not certain whether to be relieved…

Titus is attracted to the female decoder he has been writing to for the past year, but he’s never met her. He disappointed me when he was rude to Hazel, focused on a more physically attractive woman thinking she was the letter writer. He was rude to Hazel and her friends several times and doesn’t even want to consider her until his friend makes him see the truth. Poor Hazel has been made to feel unwanted, unattractive, and dismissed despite her high intelligence.

I enjoyed this new "Holidays for Spinsters" historical romance. It is a fairly short and quick read about Hazel and Lord Ashton. It is a good story with a spy twist. I love the characters and how the story develops. This is a fun read!

Wallflower Hazel has been corresponding with Lord Aston for the past year, helping him decode the secret messages of French spies. Aston believes he's fallen in love with her by letter and wants to meet her in person. Will their chemistry on paper remain in person? ~ This is a charming opposites-attract romance with a hint of intrigue and adventure. ~ Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

About the author

Born in Texas, Bianca Blythe spent four years in England. She worked in a fifteenth-century castle, though sadly that didn't actually involve spotting dukes and earls strutting about in Hessians.

She credits British weather for forcing her into a library, where she discovered her first Julia Quinn novel. She remains deeply grateful for blustery downpours.

After meeting her husband in another library, she moved with him to sunny California, though on occasion she still dreams of the English seaside, scones with clotted cream, and sheep-filled pastures. For now, she visits them in her books.
