A “mind-blowing” (Entertainment Weekly) speculative thriller about an ordinary man who awakens in a world inexplicably different from the reality he thought he knew—from the author of Upgrade, Recursion, and the Wayward Pines trilogy

“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the kidnapper knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man he’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college professor but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this life or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how will Jason make it back to the family he loves?

From the bestselling author Blake Crouch, Dark Matter is a mind-bending thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we’ll go to claim the lives we dream of.

A really good exploration of the concepts of self and merit. The book has a great use of language and an enjoyable style from my perspective. Act III is absolutely brilliant, I took me by complete surprise and all of the actions scenes kept me reading. The ending perfectly represent what the reader learns from sharing the Jason's journey. Only one tiny problem I noticed was the heavy and futile répétition in act II; I believe I understood what Jason was going through at the time from the first explanation but also the description of his experiences, so I did not feel like I needed more of him telling the audience that he doesn't feel home or whatever other form of that message. I have not read books in years because I felt as the books I read brought me so much that the ones I tried to read seemed like nothing compared to them. But Dark Matter was a nice refresher, and I am excited to continue reading more sci-fi. Thanks Blake Crouch

Wasn't sure what to expect as I've only heard this was a must. Fast read. The author didn't bore with details but provided enough to understand and make a believable world. Blake delivered.
