En biografisk fortælling om Mathilde Fibiger, en af Danmarks første kvindesagskvinder, der allerede i 1850 krævede 'Damernes emancipation' og straks fik hele spidsborgerskabet på nakken. Hendes liv blev sørgeligt, præget af udstødelse, fattigdom og sult, men hun nåede at være med til grundlæggelsen af Dansk Kvindesamfund, inden hun døde i 1872 - 41 år gammel.
