Patricia Cornwell is an award-winning former police reporter, who spent time working both as an employee of the Virginia Chief Medical Examiner’s Office and as a volunteer police officer before she wrote her first Kay Scarpetta novel, Postmortem. In addition to her career as bestselling novelist, she also serves as the Director of Applied Forensic Science at the National Forensic Academy.
