Ratings and reviews

While this book had a great start & did well to develope all the main characters (Nate, Cheese, O'Neal & even Det. LT), one wishes that was the whole book. When Nate, now "Money Green", is grown & LT has become a different man the story seems to slide a bit in favor of Money & his crew. We think that Det. LT will be an integral part of the story, especially after his first encounter with Money's crew. Instead we only get glimpse of what LT is & what impact he has on the story. LT & Money have a fated encounter, where LT pretty much sums up his part in Hurley's book: he's moved on. Truth is: I was invested in the confronting between Money's Crew & Det. LT - but never got it. The author felt Money's story was way more interesting. It all suffered from what I see as an unfulfilled ending, but in truth it was ...just not the ending I was "expecting". I was left to ask "Why?" However Hurley gives something of a victory with LT & even a side project of Money's, as well. But it's not the ending I would have written. It just felt rushed, like the author had a hot date & needed to finish the book quickly. Well he does a great job making you hate O'Neal for his constant stupidtity.

Picked this up because the title was so good I mean we are all born dying on a road to death the very oxygen we breath corroding our bodies. Turns out its about being a gangster which is ok if it's your fantasy because you are insecure and a bit dumb. Only it's not because he dies at the end.

Enjoyed the book. Looking forward to reading others by this author
