Honestly, this is nothing like the books I normally read. But, as I have decided to take this year to expand my world a bit, and have been reading books in a variety of genres that I would never had before, I decided to give this series a go. The closest I had gotten to any type of sci-fi would be Star Wars when I was a kid. So, seeing the general storyline, I didn't think I would like it. I was sooo WRONG! I didn't just like it, I LOVED it! I read the entire series as if it was one giant book that I couldn't wait to get my head back into! The apocalyptic scenario is one that has been beaten to death, but usually it revolves around a couple of guys that have been planning for it for years and they are outfitted like a small army. Not here. These are people that you can relate to, or at least relate to knowing. They have flaws, some big ones, and others are a little off-in-the-head. But I guess that is no different from the people we all deal with every day. Also, there is the alien factor. This is an interesting angle that is dealt with in a way that I have never seen before. I have told many people about this series, and a few have already started it as well. While I was sad to have it end, I was glad the author handled it like he did. I get sick of series that seem to go on forever, with no end in sight, just so the author can suck(er) you into another book. This was a clear storyline with a definitive goal and a great ending. I am now off to read more of his books!

If you like dystopian futures that are intended for adults, not tweens, then here you go. It's compulsively readable. One million words that go by in a hurry. I just wish the aliens were better shots with their lasers. Some of these heroes needed to get killed.

Simply wonderful, the scope of the series was magnificent. The way you created and tied in the various characters was enjoyable and exciting reading. I was sorry to see the series end.(I bought the complete series.and couldn't wait to get back to this great philosophical adventure.) Thank you very much for this breath of fresh air.
