She wanted her life to change ... he wanted his to stay the same.

Seventeen-year-old Ashlyn Lanski is tired of her boring, single life. Swimming and spending time with Tatiana, her best friend, are her only sanctuary. The girls plan to leave their drab lakeside town far behind for college, and Ash hopes to finally ditch her longtime crush for Finley, Tatiana's twin brother. But when Tatiana and her family fail to return home after a family emergency, Ashlyn makes an irrational decision to deal with her loss of them.

Finley Helton and his family are good at blending in with humans as they run their sailing charter business in Lake Tahoe. The truth is they guard an ancient secret. When a not so routine meeting forces Finley, Tatiana and their mother to return to their underwater home of Natatoria, they learn Fin's father will lead a dangerous mission. They must stay in Natatoria and wait for his return, but Fin can't stay caged up for long.

Secrets lurk beneath the deep blue waters of Lake Tahoe, and a simple lifesaving kiss will change their lives forever.

There simply isn't enough fiction about mermaids so when this sprang up I pounced and it was good. Fin, our hero, is a self-centered jerk, so absorbed in his own problems (what his cousin is doing with his car) that he totally ignores how terribly his mer-culture treats his sister, mother and women in general. Ash is a strong-willed girl whose crush on the neighbor boy Fin must solely be based on his good looks and infuriating manner. Despite how much Fin annoys me I found this book really enjoyable, the world and culture of the merfolk very well thought-out and created, even if it has a sexism so ingrained that the people actually think it's for the best (hint: it's not, the men are just as capable of doing what they say the women can do and show themselves to have less restraint than the women). I really like where this book takes the characters and how much they grow throughout it. I am looking forward to reading more in the series.

this was a very enjoyable book...I was quite surprised at the storyline, but it was interesting enough to keep you entertained...I just didn't like the way things went for Tatianna....it is unthinkable that just one stolen kiss could keep her from free choice...all in all I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read.

I enjoyed the story and it spoke to my childhood somehow, probably because I hadn't read or seen any stories about this type of supernatural creature since then. A fun light read for when you want to relax and immerse yourself in a different world for a little while. ;)
