About this ebook

This may be The Second Wish, but it's the third witch's dozen of nerve-rending stories of the macabre from the man who gave you the internationally bestselling Necroscope and Vampire World series. Brian Lumley's The Second Wish and Other Exhalations maintains the nightmarish tradition established by his Fruiting Bodies and Other Fungi and Dagon's Bell and Other Discords to complete a trilogy of terror.

From Lovecraftian tales such as "The House of the Temple", "Rising With Surtsey" and the title story, to such contemporary horrors as "The Sun, the Sea, and the Silent Scream" and "The Luststone", this new collection has been culled from the writings of a true Master of Nightmares.

Remember: in the field of no-holds-barred terror fiction, there's Brian Lumley – and then there's the rest…

I have personally loved Brian Lumley's style ever since my teen years when I had first picked up and read through his Necroscope series. Some time later I became aware of his Mythos stories that stood as a modern day homage to H.P. Lovecraft, but for whatever reason I'd never read any of them up until the unscratchable itch to read more of a variety of his work took ahold of me and lead me to purchase this collection of short stories that is truly worthy of a standing ovation. For the unaware, Lumley's take on the whole Cthulu mythos is a perfect example 'show don't tell' done right; outside of the aesthetic of Lovecraftian cosmic horror being beyond description, Lumley has created his own characters, settings and deities while also shaking hands with things like the Necronomicon and Cthulu, which act as fine anchoring points to stay grounded in the torrential swirl of beautiful madness Lumley has woven for us here. Now stop reading my ham-fisted review and read it for yourself!
