Dr. Pawar sought his first M.A. degree and Ph.D. from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. For more than three decades, he had been one of the most favourite professors among the students. He has penned down 20 academic books for the junior college students as well as the M.A. students. In 1964, under the guidance of the first chancellor and historian, Dr. Appasaheb Pawar, Dr. Jaisingrao Pawar's career in research began. He could get lots of experience in research of historical documents in the History department of the said university. He has written more than 25 books, all based on historical figures, including the lives of Maharani Tarabai, Senapati Santaji Ghorpade, Tracking Maratha Empire, Rajarshi Shahu Smarak Granth, etc. Till date, his articles have been published in more than 45 research magazines and history related conferences. He has chaired many history-related conferences. He is the founder member of 'All Maharashtra History Council' and later the chairman for 3 years. In 1992, he founded the 'Maharashtra Itihas Prabodhini'. He worked as the director for the same. He aims at research in history and social awakening through it. Accordingly, in 2001, the institution published the 'Rajarshi Shahu Smarak Granth' with 1200 pages divided into 3 parts, which is been translated into 16 Indian languages along with Russian, French, Italian and Japanese. He was felicitated at the hands of the President of India for his research work in history. He was also felicitated as 'Shahucharitrakar' (the one writing biography of Shahu) at Pune. Till date, he has written and edited more than 25 books on various subjects including history. Many of his books have been rewarded as 'the best book'. डॉ. जयसिंगराव पवार यांनी कोल्हापूरच्या शिवाजी विद्यापीठातून एम.ए. (सर्वप्रथम) आणि पीएच.डी. पदवी संपादन केली. तीन दशकांहून अधिक काळ महाविद्यालयीन क्षेत्रात विद्यार्थिप्रिय प्राध्यापक म्हणून अध्यापन केले. महाविद्यालयातील एम.ए.पर्यंतच्या विद्याथ्र्यांसाठी २० क्रमिक पुस्तके लिहिली. शिवाजी विद्यापीठाचे पहिले कुलगुरू व इतिहास संशोधक डॉ. अप्पासाहेब पवार यांच्या मार्गदर्शनाखाली डॉ. जयसिंगराव यांच्या संशोधन कारकिर्दीला १९६४ मध्ये सुरुवात झाली. या विद्यापीठातील इतिहास विभागात त्यांनी ऐतिहासिक कागदपत्रांच्या संशोधनाचा अनुभव घेतला. त्यांनी महाराणी ताराबाई, सेनापती संताजी घोरपडे, मराठेशाहीचा मागोवा, राजर्षी शाहू स्मारक ग्रंथ इत्यादी एवूÂण २५पेक्षा अधिक इतिहासविषयक ग्रंथ लिहिले. निरनिराळ्या इतिहास परिषदांमध्ये तसेच संशोधनपर नियतकालिकांत त्यांचे ४५हून अधिक शोधनिबंध प्रसिद्ध झाले. त्यांनी अनेक इतिहास परिषदांचे अध्यक्षस्थान भूषविले. अखिल महाराष्ट्र इतिहास परिषदेचे ते संस्थापक - सदस्य आणि नंतर तीन वर्षांसाठी अध्यक्ष होते. त्यांनी १९९२ मध्ये महाराष्ट्र इतिहास प्रबोधिनी संस्थेची स्थापना केली. या संस्थेचे संस्थापक-संचालक म्हणूनही ते कार्यरत होते. इतिहास संशोधन व त्याद्वारा समाजप्रबोधन हे त्यांचे उद्दिष्ट असून, त्यानुसार संस्थेतर्फे १२०० पानांचा, तीन खंडांचा राजर्षी शाहू स्मारक ग्रंथ २००१मध्ये प्रसिद्ध केला. भारतातील १६ भाषांमध्ये तसेच रशियन, फ्रेंच, इटालियन, जपानी या परकीय भाषांमध्ये अनुवादाचे काम सुरू आहे. यांपैकी कन्नड, कोकणी, इंग्लिश, जर्मन, उर्दू व तेलुगू, आणि हिंदी भाषेतील ग्रंथ प्रसिद्ध झाले आहेत. गुजराती व रशियन भाषेतील ग्रंथ प्रसिद्धीच्या मार्गावर आहेत. डॉ. जयसिंगराव शाहू संशोधन केंद्र, शिवाजी विद्यापीठ, कोल्हापूर या संस्थेचे संचालक आहेत. महाराष्ट्राचा इतिहास, राजर्षी शाहू चरित्र व कोल्हापूरचा पंचखंडात्मक इतिहास इत्यादी ग्रंथांचे संपादन त्यांनी केले. महाराष्ट्राच्या सुवर्ण महोत्सवानिमित्त राजर्षी शाहू छत्रपती : जीवन व कार्य या मराठी, हिंदी व इंग्रजी अशा तीन भाषांतील ग्रंथांचे प्रकाशन माजी राष्ट्रपती श्रीमती प्रतिभाताई पाटील यांच्या हस्ते करण्यात आले. इतिहास संशोधन क्षेत्रातील कार्याचा गौरव म्हणून डॉ. जयसिंगराव पवार यांना राष्ट्रपतींच्या हस्ते सन्मानित करण्यात आले. तसेच माजी राष्ट्रपती प्रवण मुखर्जी यांच्या हस्ते शाहू चरित्र (इंग्लिश) या ग्रंथाचे प्रकाशन करून शाहूचरित्रकार म्हणून पुणे येथे त्यांचा सन्मान करण्यात आला. डॉ. पवार यांनी ऐतिहासिक, तसेच इतर अनेक विषयांवरील २५पेक्षा अधिक ग्रंथांचे लेखन व संपादन केले. त्यांच्या अनेक ग्रंथांना विविध संस्थांकडून सर्वोत्कृष्ट ग्रंथ पुरस्कार मिळाला. त्यांना इतिहासविषयक संशोधनातील आणि सामाजिक कार्याबद्दल अनेक व्यक्ती व संस्थांकडून पुरस्कार देऊन गौरविण्यात आले.
