Prior to 1964 information scientists entered library schools, they brought with them competencies in relation to information retrieval in subject databases, Subject bibliographic databases and citation indexes provided a major step forward in information dissemination. What is described here is a view of social fields as dynamic and changing. LIS is viewed as a field that started as a multidisciplinary field based on literature, psychology, sociology, management, computer science, etc., which is developing towards an academic discipline in its own right. As a field with its own body of interrelated concepts, techniques, journals, and professional associations, LIS is clearly a discipline. But by the nature of its subject matter and methods, LIS is just as clearly interdisciplinary, drawing on many adjacent fields. What is described here is a view of social fields as dynamic and changing. Library and information science is viewed as a field that started as a multidisciplinary field based on literature, psychology, sociology, management, computer science, etc., which is developing towards an academic discipline in its own right. The present research-oriented book entitled ‘Current Trends in Library and Information Science’ is devised with the sole intention to highlight modern libraries from different technical perspectives. As such essays of varied nature pertaining to the library and information science are compiled in this volume. The publication is meant for library professionals.

Dr. Dinesh Kumar Kaushik was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Library and Information Science in the year 2006 by Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra (Haryana). Presently he has been working as Assistant Librarian at the Central University of Haryana since August 2010, he is overall In-charge of the University Library, responsible for its development, maintenance, administration and organization. Prior to this, he has worked as Assistant Librarian and In-charge library at Mody Institute of Technology and Science (Deemed University) Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan, Assistant Librarian at Banasthali University, Banasthali, Rajasthan and Librarian at Vaish Technical Institute, Rohtak (Haryana). He had modernized these libraries and gained sufficient experience in automating the library activities. His areas of interest are a) Design and Development of Library Websites using HTML, b) Network-Based Information Science, Internet and Intranet applications to LIS, c) Internet Services and Resources Study, d) Developing barcoding technology for books and journals. He has been a life member of many Library Associations. He has contributed a number of research papers in many conferences, Seminars and Symposia. He has published research papers in reputed journals. He is a recognized research guide for the supervision of M.Phil & Ph.D. students. Five of the students have already completed their dissertations under his guidance and two Ph.D.s. students have submitted their Ph.D. thesis under him.
