About this ebook

Defiance by C. J. Redwine is rich postapocalyptic YA fantasy perfect for fans of Graceling and Tamora Pierce.

While the other girls in the walled city-state of Baalboden learn to sew and dance, Rachel Adams learns to track and hunt. While they bend like reeds to the will of their male Protectors, she uses hers for sparring practice.

When Rachel's father fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the city's brutal Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector: her father's apprentice, Logan—the boy she declared her love to and who turned her down two years before. Left with nothing but fierce belief in her father's survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can't be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

I enjoyed this book from the very beginning. It was well written. The main characters are compelling and whole. I forgot I was reading during this story and the end zipped towards me without me even noticing. I'm excited to continue my journey with Rachel and Logan in the next book of the series! Would highly recommend for anyone who's addicted to YA fantasy novels like I am. I literally cannot get enough of it. Try as I might! ;) An exciting and original story that kept me up readin way past my bed time!

One description I read said that Tamora Pierce readers would enjoy this author- well, this Tamora Pierce reader definitely did not. I'm not really a fan of first person writing styles, and this one isn't any better than any other I've ever read. I'm also not a fan of authors who kill off main characters. I honestly stopped reading this book halfway through--right after a main character is killed. Perhaps I'm biased, but I wasn't enjoying this book enough prior to the death of to keep reading after

A pretty quick and easy read, but definitely worth it. Got to love those YA post-apocalypse romances :) The ending was so-so, for me, but that's because there's another coming out soon and I can't wait to see what that will bring. The rest off the book I really enjoyed.

About the author

C.J. Redwine is a New York Times bestselling author of speculative fiction, a diehard lover of going to the movies, and a believer in fairytales. She keeps a six-foot tall Loki figure in her office and will argue the merits of Batman vs. Superman with anyone she meets. She once accidentally punched herself in the face on a ride at Disneyland. She doesn’t recommend it.
