Wonderful read!! Maxine finally gets a chance of getting her crush alone. But she finds out a secret that puts them all in danger. She wants to keep Thurston safe and tries to distance herself. Only thing is he's not having it, he's loved her since the first site of her. Love and family is worth fighting for!! Great story of coming into one's own and finding a love that is worth defying a legacy. Highly entertaining series of Monster's and magic being find acceptance and love!!. You do not have to have to read Monster's Enemy but I think you should. This is something of a forced proximity scenario, albeit one of Maxine's own planning. She cannot get over her feelings for Thurst so she determines to find out one way or another if they could ever be together. The dual POV just adds to the magic especially as you get to see what goes on in Thurst's head. They each try to protect the other and chaos ensures. Romance, action and humour. Fabulous!

A whimsical story of a half witch half something else, Maxine and her fated mate Thurston, a merman. They both fight against their families expectations of them. Thurston is banished from his home, the ocean. Maxine is cursed to stay out of bodies of water or drown.
