I almost deleted this book a few times because of the mentality Roman had on marriage and kids. Charlotte's parents are selfish in their own way. her dad not trying herder for her to understand and her mom letting Charlotte think what she thought about her dad. Charlotte did annoy me when she learned about the situation and honestly thought Roman was only going after her because of said situation when they were attracted to each other for years, since hs. the chemistry that Roman and Charlotte have is very strong and they are right for each other. another great book by Carly!

I have enjoyed reading The Bachelor by Carly Phillips, book one in The Chandler Brothers series, many times as this was one of the early series that introduced Ms. Phillips to me. This 20th anniversary reissue of the original edition is updated and has a new cover. The original sits on my keeper shelf, that’s how much I love this series. We have three brothers; each totally different with none of them wanting to marry. There’s also their mother who has devised a plan to get each of her boys to marry. The relationship between the brothers and their mother and the brothers themselves is written wonderfully. You sense the love and respect they have for each other as well as see the teasing and shenanigans between the brothers. Roman Chandler loved the freedom traveling the world as a foreign correspondent gave him. When his brothers nominate him to deal with their ailing mother’s matchmaking schemes, he finds himself home and trying to find someone to marry; and quickly. It shouldn’t have been that difficult in their small town of Yorkshire Falls, but Roman only wants the one woman who got away. Charlotte Bronson returned home to put down roots and establish her lingerie business. She has no interest in her past or in a man who chose to chase breaking news stories all over the world than her. It didn’t matter how good they once were or how electrifying their chemistry that was off the charts is still there. Roman has his work cut out to convince Charlotte that he’s a changed man who plans to stay. This book is not as sexy as Phillips’ more recent books, but still has those loveable characters that you want to cheer on, hoping for their happy ending. Ms. Phillips wrote a wonderful, emotional and grabbing story that is not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with chemistry, amusing banter, lots of shenanigans and charming secondary characters giving Roman and Charlotte a chance for happiness, love and a future together. I highly recommend The Bachelor to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

4.5 star Review of The Bachelor (Chandler Brothers #1) by Carly Phillips I was so excited when I learnt that Carly Phillips was updating and re -publishing her Chandler Brothers series. There are three brothers, Chase, Rick and Roman and this book is Roman and Charlotte’s story. Returning home when their mother is rushed to hospital the brothers’ come up with a plan to make their mother Raina happy. After a toss of the coin, it is determined that Roman needs to find a woman and marry ASAP. Roman is a globe trotting foreign corespondent and Charlotte is the one who got away. This is a great second chance at love story that ticked boxes for me. Roman believes he can get married and still roam the globe, while the last thing Charlotte wants is a husband like her father who was away more than he was home. Returning home to Yorkshire Falls, Charlotte knows it is time to settle down and concentrate on her lingerie business. Their ideas for the future could not be more different and yet the attraction and chemistry that sizzles between Roman and Charlotte is too hard to ignore. Raina, the matriarch of the Chandler family was a hoot, she knows how to manipulate her sons (in a good way) and is determined to see them settle down and give her the grandchildren she desires. I have to say she had me laughing at times with her plans and manipulations. As I have come to expect from a Carly Phillips book, The Bachelor was well written and she soon had me hooked on the story she wove. It was a passionate, steamy, witty that I thoroughly enjoyed. I cannot wait to read the next brother’s story.
