About the author
(Granada, 1865-Riga, 1898) Escritor español. Estudió filosofía y derecho en Granada y en Madrid. Conoció a Unamuno en 1891 durante unas oposiciones al cuerpo de archiveros, que ganó el filósofo vasco; entre ellos se estableció una intensa relación epistolar. En 1894 obtuvo un cargo diplomático en Amberes; un año más tarde fue trasladado como cónsul a Helsinki, y finalmente a Riga, donde se suicidó arrojándose a las aguas del Dvina, víctima de uno de los accesos de locura que venía sufriendo desde 1896.
