In this early apologetics manual, a physician of the mid nineteenth century explains his path of faith to God. In the first part of this book the author explains his life without God in terms that many could identify with then and even today--worldly pleasures, pursuit of knowledge, self-indulgence. A major cause of his rejection of God was inability to accept the Scriptures at face value. As the light of God dawned in his heart, he began to see what he had missed for years. More research led to a confident trust in God and an assurance in the faithfulness of His Word. The second part of the book reads like a modern apologetics manual on the defense of the Gospel and the Bible, repleat with evidences submitted from many sources and period experts. The result is a clear message to the reader that God's Bible is trustworthy and the Bible's God is worthy of trust. This book was given to a searching Sam Houston when elected the first Senator of the new state of Texas, and played a role in his becoming a Christian. It enlightened hearts and minds for decades. All but replaced by modern texts with updated evidences and language, it still commands attention by inquiring minds.
