About this ebook

It is 1936. Undercook Joan Hart and lady's maid Verity Hunter are back in London after a long stay in the country. The capital is fraught and unsettled. Protests and riots are taking place regularly, fascism is on the rise and trouble in Europe is brewing, but the girls are still thrilled to be back in the Big Smoke, ready for some fun and frivolity.

That is, until an old friend of Verity’s contacts the servant sleuths, asking for help. Maidservant Theda Samuels was the only one in the house when tycoon Sir Jacob MacMullen was killed, and things are looking very black for her… unless Joan, Verity and their old ally Inspector Marks might be able to help?

A Murder in Mayfair is the fourth in the historical mystery series, Miss Hart and Miss Hunter Investigate, by bestselling crime writer Celina Grace.

1936. After staying a year in the country Miss Dorothy Drew and her small household staff are back in town. Only for her lady's maid, Verity Hunter, to receive a letter from a friend, Theda Samuels, who is in trouble. Her employer Jacob McMullen has been murdered and she is worried that the police suspect her. The investigation is led by old friend Inspector Marks. Joan Hart and Verity decide to help her and investigate. An entertaining and well-written cozy historical mystery. Another good addition to this enjoyable series with its cast of likeable characters.

Another murder mystery from Celina Grace to keep you guessing to the end. I love the period setting, generally modern language but the odd old word reminds us of the times - ‘perambulating’ was one that caught my attention early in the story. The styles of clothes and even the meals served all come together to set the scene in the manor house with maids and cooks. I’ve enjoyed several of the Miss Hart and Miss Hunter stories and I’m never disappointed.
