About the author

 Dr. Chris Manning is Coordinator of a post-graduate program in Population and Human Resources, The Flinders University of South Australia. He is an economist and has worked many years in Indonesia, principally as a research and teaching fellow at the Population Studies Center, Gajah Mada University, Yogjakarta. His publications include several edited books and monographs, and numerous research papers on various aspects of employment and labour markets in Indonesia and dealing with wider regional and national economic development and population issues.
