About the author

Peter Chrisp has an MA in English Literature and is the author of over 80 books on history, including 'Victorian Crime and Crime and Punishment'. He began writing history while working as a researcher at the Mass Observation Archive at Sussex University?an archive of 20th century social history, including crime. He was also a senior writer for the Culture Online: Icons of England website.
