The Voyager relaunch series is not off to a good start with this one. Not only did the author apparently forget how the TV series ended, they've latched onto one of the very worst ideas from it that's already been done to death in several other awful books and a dreadful video game or two. My one regret is that this is an eBook, and I cannot put it through a paper shredder in a bid to do its (lack of) quality justice.

Pretty good plot, but I feel like the author comes up just a bit short when it comes to the Voyager crew. The characters are definitely recognizable as themselves, but there are certain small things that seem a bit off and to be quite honest, the writing style reminded me a little of Twilight (a huge turn off for me). The book also ends very abruptly, and feels like it should come with a disclaimer - You must buy the sequel in order to read the whole story. $16 for a complete e-book seems kind of high to me. In contrast, for half the price you can get Jeri Taylor's Mosaic which I felt captured the characters a little bit better. If you're a hardcore Voyager fan and feel like spending the money, get this. Otherwise, there are better ones out there.

First of all, as others have said, this books simply is book 1 of 2. It just stops at the end in a sort of cliff hanger. A cliff hanger that you might find at the end of a chapter, not a book. With that being said, it was easy to read, mostly fast reading, not many slow parts, but not action packed by any means either. The plot was slow but steady. This is my biggest complaint: I wanted more details on Voyagers return back to Earth. They focused on the return flight and docking. Then proceeded to skip days and months. I was not satisfied at all on this aspect. I didn't want to read "just another" book about Voyager, I wanted to read about their homecoming. This just didn't do it for me. There was a little about the Doctor's and Seven's adaptation -- probably more dramatic then needed, and a very odd bit with Janeway hanging out with her ex and his wife. That was sort of ... awkward. So, overall I can't recommend this unless you can't get enough of Voyager. On to book two now. And I am not happy about spending more money on it....
