About this ebook

One last chance to control her magic…or she’s banished to a world without it.

At the ripe old age of eighteen, Calendula Dobkins should be able to cast simple enchantments as easy as breathing. But most days, Callie and magic aren’t exactly on speaking terms. Not that she doesn’t have it. More like…she has control issues.

Her parents pack her off to Miss Primm’s Academy for Wayward Witches, where she has only three years to whip her unruly magic into shape. Or DOME (the Department of Magical Exile) will banish her to Mundania. A world without magic.

Callie quickly learns which girls have her back, and who will throw her under the bus. Pop quizzes can be killer. The Beginning Spells professor seems have it in for her. And…just who is the mysterious Miss Primm, anyway?

Then there’s the six feet of Scottish gorgeousness she meets at the joint school dance with Master Marco’s School for Woeful Wizards, Lochlan Abernathy. If Callie can survive finals with a ticket to year two, maybe they can do more than just dream about the future…

Think Hogwarts as a junior college with much more mayhem! Smaller in size but big on the drama! Miss Primm’s Academy of Wayward Witches is where you go when your magic is on the fritz. It's your last hope before your brain and magic gets wiped and you're sent to live with the "normies! Callie's dad may work with the governing body but she has to face Miss Primm's if she has any chance of getting her magic to do as it told. Callie soon makes friends with her roommate and most of the others in yer year but there is always that one clique and mean girl who has it out for everyone. I loved getting immersed in the world of magical misfirings. No one is safe and if you don't pass your exams - it's hasta la vista! There is mild peril and a very loose romance but all very age-appropriate and suitable for younger teenagers.

This review is of Misspelled, Book 1 in Miss Primm’s Academy for Wayward Witches by Christine Pope. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Note: this review contains spoilers! Callie Dobkins is on her way to Miss Primm’s, not because she is particularly wayward but because her magic is. You see where Callie lives, everyone, and I do mean everyone, does magic. And they keep it that way by making sure those born with no magic or those who can’t control their magic are transported to Mundania, the other place where there is no magic. Miss Primm’s is not a place where you have to finish first, but you do have to get a passing grade or you may disappear to Mundania and never be seen again! There’s the School for Woeful Wizards too. So the men and women at the two schools do their best to teach the youngsters how to better control their magic. They have classes in spells, working with familiars, and history of magic. And every once in a while the witches and wizards can get together and have a party or dance. Sounds fairly normal, doesn’t it? Until there is the first challenge in Professor Hendricks‘ class and Mona, the witch showing the least amount of magic, passes with flying colors. Just how did she do that??? You are going to have to read this delightful tale to try and find out! And luckily for you, books 2 and 3 have also been released, so you just might find your answer. This book was so much fun to read! The four main girls going to the Academy have great back stories and are delightfully described as they go through the school days and adventures. I loved the different classes they took and what they had to do with their familiars. I’m so glad I also have the next two books so I can keep going and not have to wait. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

The Worst Witch and Hex Hall meet junior college crossed over with a finishing school, that’s really one of the best ways to describe Misspelled. And I love this book. Callie lives in a world where everyone has magic, and some are better at it than others, which happens to be the case with Callie. She’s sent to Miss Primm’s Academy for Wayward Witches for three years, without being able to go home and see her family, no Christmas or summer vacations at this boarding school. I adore Callie and the journey that she goes through in just her first year alone. She makes some awesome friends, who are willing to work together to support one another and be there for each other. They all go through a crazy adventure as they realize that just something is up and it’s not just with their powers. I really adored this story and I felt like I was taken back to my days in college only you know without the magic and threat of potentially losing it but some classes kind of felt that was a possibility. It’s only one of a trilogy but I am a good way through the second book and am excited to get to the third. I like a lot of Christine Pope’s books, this has definitely moved up the line though. Callie was for me a lot more relatable and just gave me the nostalgic feels of things that only happened a few years ago for me. It just brought me back to a time where it felt like I was not ready for the journey ahead. I did receive an ARC but this in no way affects my thoughts or opinions of what I read.
