About this ebook

Bettany Sendris knows that going to the dour lord of Harrow Hall to plead for more time to pay her taxes is probably a fool's mission. However, with winter closing in on her tiny village, and barely enough food to put on her and her grandmother's table, she realizes she has no alternative.

But when the worst storm in decades strands her in Lord Greymount's gloomy castle, Bettany soon discovers that her presence there may bring some long-hidden secrets to light, secrets that could cost her more than just her heart.... (Book 7 of the Tales of the Latter Kingdoms)

Author’s Note: While this is the seventh book in this series, all Tales of the Latter Kingdoms novels are written as standalone romances and can be read in any order.

Of all the books I've read in this series so far, this is my favorite. The pacing is well done, as some of the other works seem to drag on for a bit then have a lot happen in the last few pages. But I wasn't bored at any point reading this one, and was kept guessing at when things would reach the climax.

Tax time was coming near. Bettany knew their grandmother did not have enough money. What could they do, their income was meager. What if they could borrow money from Lord Greymount with a promise to repay in the summer. That that being the only option, Bettany set out to visit Lord Greymount at his castle. Barely making it through the snowstorm, Bettany awakes to find herself in a bed in someplace unfamiliar. Somehow she was brought from the entrance to the inside of the castle. Determined to please her case, Bettany is finally granted a visit to Lord Greymount. Unable to leave the castle due to a great snowstorm, Bettany finds herself more intrigued with the Lord and wants to know more about him, and finds she has feelings for him. But why does he live in a great castle with so few servants, and no women? The more time she spends at the castle, the more the feelings grow and the more she wishes to learn more. What mysteries does this great castle and this Lord hold? Another wonderful fairy tale by Christine Pope. With minimal characters, it is very easy to follow and become attached to Bettany, a simple girl with a goal. The reading is light and easy. This series is one that does not need to be read in any specific order. Sit back, pick up a fairy tale and enjoy!

This I have to say was one of my favorites. I loved Christine's suttle hints to the classic Red Riding Hood story, and loved how she used her own very talented skill of writing romances to create a fresh, unique tale that kept you on your toes and wanting more. This series has been amazing. Can't put any of them down!

About the author

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family’s Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Two of her short stories have been nominated for the Pushcart Prize.

Christine writes as the mood takes her, and her work includes paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and science fiction/space opera romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection. The Land of Enchantment cast its spell on her while she was researching her Djinn Wars series, and she now makes her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
