Who needs men when you have cupcakes?

Life was good. I didn’t need anything. Especially not a sexy, funny, sweet stranger who wanted to go on a date.

My friends told me to give him a chance, but I knew he’d take one look at my curvy body and come up with a reason not to go out again. So, I gave him an out.

He didn’t take it.

The man was relentless. He liked my curves, and he wanted more than just phone calls. He wanted me.

How could I say no to that?

The main female character has a lot of insecurities and problems with herself, and constantly takes them out on her friends and others. I can't tell if we are supposed to root for her or not? If I was the male lead, I might have given up by the third time. I wanted to like this book, being self conscious and bigger like her, but I just can't handle her attacking everyone around her every time she misconstrued something. I'm almost finished with the book, and she is still doing it. I almost don't want to read the rest. I wanted to like this book more than I did.

This book should require a trigger warning for anyone who has been sexually abused. The lead male in this book is downright creepy! I read this because I am chubby and thought it would be nice to see an overweight heroine "get the hot guy". But I was appalled by the way the guy controlled her and was constantly touching her. I can't recommend this book. It gave me the heebie-jeebies!

I don't often write reviews about books I didn't finish, but although I had to abandon this one, I just wanted to leave a heads up for others. The main character was just too hard to like. I'm a larger woman and was looking forward to reading about a character I could share something with, but this one felt too stereotypical and not enough real world. For a character who claimed to be accepting of who she was and what that might mean for her life, she was incredibly harsh to herself and those around her. After she attacked our hero on exactly zero provocation, I just couldn't get behind her anymore. This one just didn't do it for me.

About the author

USA TODAY Bestselling Author Mary E Thompson spent most of her childhood wishing she had a few less curves. She hid in the pages of books because her favorite characters never cared what size her clothes were. Now, neither does Mary, and she writes stories that celebrate women like her. Real women who have curves, chase dreams, and find love, because we should all be happy, no matter our dress size.

Mary spends her non-writing time with her husband and two kids, watching too much TV, cheering for her hometown football team (Go Bills!), and hiding chocolate from her family.
