I remember this book as one of the most exciting of my youth. When I was in 5th grade, Sister Arlene read it to us at St. Agnes School in 1959. Not only did she give us a good story, but taught us self-control at the same time. She had us sit perfectly still "without moving a muscle" as she read. We started out with about 5 minutes of stillness and by the end of the book we were up to half an hour. I can't wait to read it again and see if it was is as thrilling as I remember.

The winter I was in 7th grade at St James the Less Catholic School, about 1957, it was too cold to go out for recess so the Sister had me read this out loud to the class for 30 minutes every day. I loved it and I think they did too. The name just came back to me, for some reason. It was fun to find a sample online.

This may have been a children's book for my 4th grade teacher because she read it to us in class about 1960.
